Fostering with HSC NI Foster Care

Fostering is a big decision. You may not realise that you can foster with either your local Trust (ie us at HSC NI Foster Care) or an independent/private agency (IFA).

While we can often work together to support children in care, there are a number of significant differences in how we each operate. Here are just some of the benefits and reasons why HSC NI Foster Care should be your first port of call for fostering:

24/7 support, when you need it

With a local social worker from your community fostering team and a dedicated out-of-hours service, you’ll get the help you need, when you need it.

Choice and flexibility to suit your lifestyle

From short breaks and emergency cover, to supported lodgings or longer-term care and everything in between, we’ll have a fostering opportunity that fits.

Going direct

Having direct responsibility for all children in care across Northern Ireland means we are best-placed to match them to suitable foster homes, based on each child’s individual needs.

Not for profit

As a non-profit making service, all resources are directly reinvested back into Family and Childcare services to benefit children within your local community.

Added extras to support you

On top of your fostering allowances, we also cover school uniforms and expenses, equipment or furniture, childcare costs (where appropriate), and offer enhanced amounts at key times like Christmas and birthdays. You may also receive extra financial support or specialist fees based on a child’s specific needs.

A joined up approach

Whatever your fostering query or issue, it’s reassuring to know our social work colleagues are all part of one team so you can access quick and efficient advice and expertise when you need it.

Bespoke training and peer support

With a comprehensive suite of training delivered in the local area and attended by foster carers from your community, you can feel empowered in your fostering role while building your peer support network.

Local foster homes for children who need them

Keeping a child in their local community offers stability in what is already a time a change. Staying at the same school and retaining friendships and hobbies nurtures a child’s sense of identity and supports their emotional wellbeing, leading to better fostering outcomes.
