Foster carers had a chance to take a little time out to connect and chat with their fellow foster carers at a range of festive events hosted by our fostering teams in the run up to Christmas.
From coffee mornings to wreath making at support groups and other creative activities, there was something for everyone.
At our Belfast event, Lord Mayor of Belfast, Councillor Micky Murray, praised all the carers for their often unseen work.
He said: “This event is so important as it recognises and celebrates our foster carers who give so much of themselves to provide safe, loving, and stable homes for children and young people.
“Foster carers are the unsung heroes of our communities. Their commitment and compassion are life-changing for the young people in their care. They offer a sense of belonging and stability, things that can transform the lives of these young people forever.
“Every day, foster carers open their hearts and homes to children facing immense challenges. The emotional, practical, and personal sacrifices they make are immense. Their work ensures that children who have faced adversity can find safety, love, and the opportunity to grow into their full potential.”
At another of our events in Lisburn, Principal Social Worker Sarah Moore said, “It’s just so lovely to bring all of our foster carers together. For us, this is a way to show how much we appreciate them and value everything that they do for us. If it wasn’t for them and all their hard work, our children wouldn’t be lucky enough to be in safe and secure homes. Today is really about celebrating them.”
