Could you foster Thomas (9)?

20th April 2025

Thomas is 9 years old with brown eyes, brown hair and an infectious smile. He has a good sense of humour and likes to have a laugh. Thomas likes to keep his hair short.

Thomas has been in short-term foster care and needs a long-term home within the Northern area until he can live independently.

He is a very loveable boy, with a funny sense of humour and can be affectionate. Thomas has lovely manners and is caring to others. He is lots of fun to be around, enjoys outdoors, running around, and sports activities. He loves playing games and is into Pokémon and Harry Potter. He enjoys going to the cinema and watching the latest movies.

Thomas goes to mainstream school every day and stays after school for extra-curricular activities. Thomas gets good support from school and he is doing well there.

He likes one-to-one attention and to be involved in things within the home. Thomas has a diagnosis of ADHD and can be a very energetic boy. He can sometimes become overwhelmed and struggles with his emotions however with a kind, caring and therapeutic response he settles well.

Thomas requires lots of reassurance and attention and, therefore, would be best placed in a home where he is the only child or with older children. Thomas manages best when provided with boundaries and routines to allow him to manage his energetic behaviour. Thomas thrives with a routine and structure to his day, giving him prior knowledge to his schedule to help manage his thoughts. Thomas is a very curious child and often likes to ask questions.

Thomas does not have any contact with his birth family, this was a decision the family had made and this can be difficult for him. Thomas needs safe and secure care with a committed foster carer(s).

Thomas can find it difficult to tell people what is on his mind and what he is worried about but when he develops a trusting relationship he does start to express his feelings.

As Thomas’ foster carer(s), you will receive fostering allowances and an additional fee per annum, alongside ongoing social work support and training and development opportunities.
