**NEW** Could you foster Stephen (13)?

9th September 2026

Stephen* is a bright, active and engaging 13-year-old boy who is looking for foster carers who can provide him with safety, stability and lots of opportunities to enjoy the things he loves most.

Stephen is a young person with additional needs who thrives when surrounded by patient adults who understand the importance of routine, consistency and encouragement. Although he does not use spoken language, Stephen has his own way of communicating and connecting with the people around him.

Those who know Stephen best describe him as a cheerful young person who enjoys exploring the world around him and taking part in activities that bring him happiness and comfort. Stephen is full of curiosity and enjoys being active. He loves spending time outdoors where he can safely run, explore and enjoy open spaces. Some of his favourite activities include playing on a trampoline, watching Bluey and Cocomelon, using his iPad, playing with toy cars and kicking a football around.

Stephen communicates very effectively in his own way, often using gestures, hand-leading and visual cues to show what he wants or needs. He responds particularly well to visual supports, predictable routines, clear expectations and calm reassurance. Building a trusting relationship with Stephen is key to understanding his communication style and helping him feel safe and secure.

Stephen has complex additional needs and requires support with all aspects of daily living, including personal care. He would benefit from carers who can provide a structured and consistent routine, support his personal care needs, administer medication as prescribed and offer the close supervision and reassurance he requires. Stephen has very limited awareness of danger and can be quick to wander off to explore his surroundings. Because of this, he needs constant supervision and reassurance where he can safely enjoy being active and exploring the world around him.

Stephen’s ideal carers will be patient, nurturing, calm and understanding. They will be committed to meeting his needs, advocating for him and working alongside professionals to ensure he receives the support he requires. Experience of caring for children with disabilities would be helpful but is not essential, as full training, guidance and ongoing support will be available.

Maintaining important family relationships remains an important part of Stephen’s life. He benefits from regular, supported family contact and will need carers who understand the value of supporting these relationships.

Stephen has so much to offer the people who care for him. With the right family, he can continue to develop, enjoy new experiences and feel safe, valued and loved. Fostering Stephen is an opportunity to make a real difference in the life of a young person who needs dedicated adults to help him reach his full potential.

If you think you could provide the care, commitment and understanding that Stephen needs, we’d love to hear from you. Full training, financial support and professional guidance will be provided every step of the way.
