Could you foster Paul (7)?

18th August 2025

Paul* is a bright seven-year-old boy who is warm, energetic and affectionate. He has a strong desire to be loved and accepted. He is a sensitive child who requires a nurturing, structured and consistent care environment to help him feel safe and supported. Paul would benefit greatly from predictable routines and consistent boundaries delivered with warmth and empathy.

Paul can experience insecurity and anxiety as a result of his adverse childhood experiences. He can struggle with his emotions when anxious and may cry, shout and seek adult attention. He responds well to a high level of praise, reassurance and encouragement throughout the day to support his self-confidence. Paul requires patience and emotional availability from his carers to support his need for constant reassurance and validation. Paul responds best when given short, calm and clear instructions and preparation for change.

Paul has a diagnosis of ADHD. This is managed by engaging him in a high level of physical activity, which he thoroughly enjoys. Paul enjoys playing with water and going to the park. He enjoys a Chinese takeaway on a Friday evening and swimming on a Saturday. He can struggle to settle at bedtime, however, he is usually asleep by 9.30pm / 9.45pm and sleeps all night.

Paul has a good appetite and enjoys a wide variety of foods. He does not like vegetables but does eat plenty of fruit. Paul can mimic other children. It is felt this stems from his strong desire to be loved and accepted by everyone. The adults around him work hard to try and make Paul feel as secure as possible by giving him lots of praise and encouragement. The hope is that this mirroring behaviour will decrease and Paul’s overall wellbeing will improve as he becomes more secure. A stable, loving foster home is required to provide Paul with the opportunity to heal, flourish and enjoy his childhood years.

Paul’s foster carer(s) will receive financial support, ongoing social work support, as well as training and development opportunities.
