Could you foster Mark (16)?

1st May 2025

We urgently require a foster home for Mark* within the South Eastern area.

Mark is 16 years old, around 5ft tall, average weight with brown hair and a lovely smile. Mark is open to the Children’s Disability Service. He has a diagnosis of Down Syndrome, Severe Learning Disability and is non-verbal. Mark has complex physical needs, he is a wheelchair user and he is fully dependent on the adults around him to ensure all aspects of his care.

Mark enjoys being in the company of others and he is most relaxed when with people he knows. He enjoys drives in the car, watching cartoons and spending time outdoors. Mark has a lovely personality, with a keen curiosity and sense of mischief alongside a warm loving response. He enjoys playing with sensory toys, particularly squishy ones and a ball he throws. Mark enjoys school and is a good attender.

Mark requires foster carers who can provide a consistent level of care and support until he transitions to adult services following his 18th birthday. The preference for two foster carers is to support his mobility needs as he requires help with transfers to and from his wheelchair, sofa, chair and car etc. He is able to walk a short distance with support. Mark is able to live with other children in the home.

Whilst experience of caring for children with disabilities and complex needs would be very helpful, it is not essential as full training and support will be provided.

We will provide wraparound support to his foster carers which will include:

  1. A financial package including allowances; a specialist fee and any additional finances required to meet the needs of Mark.
  2. Support from the Children’s Disability Service in relation to Mark’s complex needs.
  3. Robust training.
  4. Regular short breaks.
  5. Outreach support.
  6. Support from a supervising social worker.
