Jan* is a very funny and likeable 10-year-old boy. He laughs at silly jokes and banter and often uses humour to connect with the people around him.
Jan has a natural talent for making others smile and he has warmed the hearts of many. Jan is a devoted Manchester United fan. He plays for his local football club but enjoys all types of sport. He enjoys an active lifestyle and the friendships that team-sports offer.
Jan is a deeply caring and thoughtful young man. He can talk openly about his feelings, and he is sensitive to how others are feeling. ‘Family time’ is important to Jan and he thinks about his relatives often. If family time is cancelled Jan will worry about what may have happened at home. While he was living at home, Jan took on a lot of responsibilities, much more than what should be expected of a child his age. For this reason, Jan may be best matched with a foster family where he is the only child or the youngest child, as he can feel a strong sense of responsibility towards younger children.
Because of his difficult life experiences, it can take time for Jan to build trust with new adults. When he does, Jan values close relationships. In March, Jan was tearful to learn that we have not yet found him a new foster family. He loves every aspect of family life and to feel accepted and included by others. He likes to help in the kitchen and he enjoys tasting new foods and eating together as a family.
Jan responds well to praise and rewards. He is at an age where he understands the boundaries of what he can and cannot do, and also the consequences. Sometimes he worries about disappointing people and needs reassurance and guidance whenever he gets things wrong.
Jan needs a warm and welcoming carer who is available to listen to him when he needs support. He enjoys connecting with his carers, talking about his day in the car, kicking a ball in the garden or reading together. At school, Jan has made excellent progress. Achieving an education is important to Jan and he enjoys being involved in after-school clubs.
Jan is a very creative young man. He is learning to play the guitar and enjoys singing. He loves building complex Lego sets and dreams of visiting Legoland one day.
Jan enjoys healthy competition and gaming with others. He has a soft side for animals and enjoys spending time with family pets. Because of his support needs Jan’s foster carer(s) will receive a fee in addition to fostering allowances.
