Teddy* is a delightful little boy who is 3 years and 2 months old. He brings so much joy to the people around him. He has the most infectious giggle, especially when he is enjoying cuddles and tickles. He loves music and enjoys listening to his foster carer sing nursery rhymes and songs to him. Music is something that really captures his attention and helps him feel calm, happy and connected to those around him.
Teddy attends Nursery 3 times per week and the staff describe him as an absolute joy to care for. Teddy enjoys spending time in the sensory rooms where he can explore musical toys and watch light-up toys that really spark his curiosity and delight.
Teddy has a diagnosis of severe global developmental delay. This means that he is learning and developing at a slower pace than many children his age and needs extra support to help reach his milestones.
For Teddy, this means he is still developing skills such as communication, movement and independence and he benefits from patient adults who can support him to explore the world in his own time. Teddy shows his enjoyment and connection with others through his beautiful smiles, laughter and the way he relaxes into cuddles with people he trusts.
In his day-to-day care, Teddy relies on his carer for many of his needs. At the moment, he is fed by his carer and enjoys smooth puréed food pouches. Teddy can be cautious about new tastes and textures and prefers foods that he knows and feels comfortable with. He also drinks milk from his bottle which is mixed with a nutritional build-up powder containing vitamins and minerals to support his growth and development.
Teddy is making progress with his physical development. Recently he has begun walking while holding just one of his foster carer’s hands, which has been a super achievement for him. His foster carer is also gently encouraging him to begin holding a spoon and practising self-feeding skills.
Teddy came into foster care at 17 months old due to significant concerns about the care he was receiving from his birth parents. In his early life, Teddy experienced neglect and was exposed to domestic abuse. Since moving to live with his foster carer he has made very encouraging developmental progress. With the support, patience and encouragement of his foster carer and the professionals around him, he continues to take meaningful steps forward and is showing that he is capable of learning and developing in his own time.
Since moving into foster care, Teddy has benefitted greatly from the consistent care, warmth and structure provided. This nurturing environment has allowed Teddy to feel safe and supported, and professionals have been pleased to see the developmental progress he has made during this time. Teddy needs a family who can help him continue to develop and thrive with the patience and love he deserves.
Teddy could live with a single adopter or a couple. Teddy could also live with other children. Could this be you?
