Ronan* is a 7-year boy in need of extra love and attention. He is diagnosed with Global Developmental Delay and Autism which can impact his relationships with others, his sensory needs and his behaviours.

Ronan is non-verbal, however he will skilfully make sounds and gestures to express what he wants and needs. He also uses visual PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System) cards and Makaton to communicate with his caregivers.

Ronan is an affectionate and caring young boy who enjoys connecting with others through hugs and close interactions. He benefits from deep pressure and enjoys being squeezed and using weighted blankets. Ronan is very endearing. He will sit close to his caregivers and play with their ears, hair and eyelashes while they make conversation with him.

Ronan likes to be playful and active. He loves being outside, riding his bike, bouncing on the trampoline and going to the play park. When inside, he enjoys playing with his tablet, and he has lots of sensory toys and fidget items to play with.

Ronan attends an educational setting that supports his needs. In school, Ronan enjoys playing with his peers and he is seen to gently hold hands with others.

Ronan is curious about the world around him. He is fearless and needs help to understand the dangers around him, such as traffic. He needs an attentive carer who can spend time with him, help him to make safe choices, and support him during the challenging moments of his day.

Ronan requires long-term foster care. He needs a foster home where two loving foster carers can join him in his world and adapt to his needs.

Autism helps us appreciate how the simple things in life can bring so much joy to children like Ronan. Ronan would love it if his new foster family could bring him to sensory play sessions, or inclusive facilities in the community.

Ronan’s foster carers will receive a financial fee, in addition to fostering allowances, in recognition of the required level of commitment, as well as training and ongoing support.
