**NEW** Could you adopt Hakan (2)?

18th June 2026

Hakan* is a bright, observant and joyful 2 and a half year old boy. He enjoys being around others and watching the world go by. Hakan has a real love of music and delights in singing songs, making animal sounds and counting numbers, responding warmly to adult encouragement. He enjoys dancing, clapping and interactive games. He also loves the outdoors, particularly going for walks and visits to the park.

Hakan is known to the Child Development Clinic and has been diagnosed with Global Developmental Delay. His speech, fine motor and social skills are slightly delayed compared to children his age; however, he has made significant progress and continues to develop steadily.  With the right support, early intervention and therapeutic parenting approaches Hakan is expected to continue to develop and thrive.

Hakan is displaying some characteristics that may be consistent with Autism Spectrum Disorder and he is currently under ongoing assessment. For example, he prefers familiar routines and can become verbally frustrated when he is unable to communicate his needs. When unsettled, Hakan generally prefers space to self soothe rather than immediate physical reassurance. He responds very well to calm voices, predictability and consistent routines.

Hakan was admitted to care two days after his birth. Since that time, he has remained in the same foster home, where he has received consistent, nurturing care without any moves or disruptions. Hakan has benefitted from a high level of emotional warmth, praise and reassurance, providing him with a strong and secure foundation.

Hakan was born into a mixed-heritage family and currently follows a halal diet. Supporting his cultural identity and helping him to develop a positive understanding of his heritage will be an important part of his life as he grows.

Hakan has been freed for adoption and is urgently seeking his forever home in Northern Ireland. He could thrive in a two parent family, with a single adopter or within a family who already have older children. Hakan could live with a family from any ethnic or religious background, provided they are committed to supporting him to understand and celebrate his birth heritage as he grows.

Hakan’s carer(s) will receive financial support, ongoing social work support, as well as access to training and development opportunities to support them in meeting Hakan’s needs.
